Basic skills such as Microsoft products and a general ability to navigate the internet are very important to have when becoming an educator. These are products that most everyone will use, school or not. However, new technology emerges like smart boards and adaptive lessons on iPads, that may require some background information to understand how to immerse it into a lesson.
I would like to use some script writing software and movie editing software to get my theatre students fully immersed and be able to understand all aspects of theatre such as film and script writing. This will give them the ability to express themselves in new ways other than writing a paper of regurgitated knowledge. Instead, they can be creative and create new ways.This would be most useful for students in around middle school or higher. They will have mastered some basic skills of English and computer literacy to be able to operate these programs.
In my newsletter design, I created a take-home flyer for students to bring to their parents for Worldwide Day of Film. I used many graphics and simple texts to make it easy to understand everything on the flyer. Everything was neatly organized and made it accessible for digital and paper formats. I liked this assignment because it gave me the ability to create an assignment on film by using technology and getting the students immersed in movie theaters. The flyer also mentions a homework assignment that would be implemented based on the films shown. The homework assignment would use a digital bank of the films for students to access later while doing the assignment. If I were to edit this, I would use more lists and less paragraphs to make it quicker for on-the-go parents.
