Basic skills such as Microsoft products and a general ability to navigate the internet are very important to have when becoming an educator. These are products that most everyone will use, school or not. However, new technology emerges like smart boards and adaptive lessons on iPads, that may require some background information to understand how to immerse it into a lesson.  I would like to use some script writing software and movie editing software to get my theatre students fully immersed and be able to understand all aspects of theatre such as film and script writing. This will give them the ability to express themselves in new ways other than writing a paper of regurgitated knowledge. Instead, they can be creative and create new ways. This would be most useful for students in around middle school or higher. They will have mastered some basic skills of English and computer literacy to be able to operate these programs.  In my newsletter design, I created a t...

Microsoft Word is a very useful tool, especially for students. For specific formatting guides, Word has a very accessible interface that makes using MLA or APA formatting for writing papers very simple. MS Word also includes an editing follower that will track any changes an editor makes to your paper and will highlight those changes. In addition, the notes tool can easily put in side comments by editors and the user without altering the paper itself. My teachers introduced me to the editing tools and have greatly impact how I edit my papers. To my knowledge, copyright works differently in an educational setting. For example, showing a film or piece of entertainment doesn't require a viewing license or purchasing of rights when shown in an educational setting. Also, the sharing of excerpts from books for educational purposes doesn't violate fair use laws, but doesn't not condone the sharing of this content outside of that setting.  In Chapter 9, we see some i...

Technology is ever growing and at the rate it changes, keeping a technology oriented classroom gives students the upper-hand in not falling behind. Personally, I almost always had computers integrated into my classroom and without having that valuable time to learn and study the working of computer and internet browsing, I wouldn't know how to easily adapt to new piece of technology that comes out. My being able to work an iPhone  is directly related to my knowledge of my the first iPod nanos and computer interfaces. Technology is a huge part of society today and exposing children to it at a young and letting them grow alongside the technology only makes them more successful in the future.  ISTE Standards work as great life goals and mentor goals in addition to being a well-rounded educator. This list of standards are compiled to effectively navigate the steering of young minds towards where they need to go. A specific standard stuck out to me in particular. Mak...

Post #0: Prior Experiences with Technology and What I Hope to Learn in EME2040

In the past, my experiences with technology have helped set me apart from my peers around me. In middle school I became interested in making films. This led me to teach myself how to learn various programs such as Windows Movie Maker and Sony Vegas Studio. These programs, specifically Sony Vegas, have interfaces that require practice and multiple hours to understand the technology. In addition to film editing, I also dabble in music production with programs like Audacity and Melodyne. I'm not super well-versed in Photoshop, but can use programs like PowerPoint and Paint to my advantage for photo editing. In this class, I would like to fully understand all the capabilities of Microsoft Excel and whatever I'm not aware of on Windows. Spreadsheets are a valuable piece of software that can aid in my theatre major. The organization and charts can be useful for scheduling and money managing.
